The B2B lead generation agency that starts from buying signals.
A B2B lead generation agency finds the buyers who are ready to talk and starts the conversation with them. Unlike most other B2B lead generation agencies, we don’t believe in playing the volume game or spamming people who are not ready to buy. We do not manufacture demand by reaching out to someone who may not be interested. Our outbound is almost always signal-driven, which best sets you up for success while also protecting the integrity of your brand.
What should a lead generation agency hand to your sales team?
A lead generation agency should give your sales team a picture of each prospect: who the prospect is, how they know you based on the content they have been exposed to, what we think they are looking for, and why we think now is the right time to talk.
Most lead generation reports end with a count, which leaves a salesperson to start every conversation cold. The picture also takes account of who else is likely to be involved, because Forrester’s survey of nearly 18,000 business buyers found an average of 13 internal stakeholders and nine external participants in a buying decision1, and a conversation with one of them is rarely the whole story.
A lead generation company that can only report a count leaves sales to work all of this out alone. It also sets up a blame game, with the agency pointing to the number of leads it delivered and sales pointing to how few were ready for a call, which fuels the age-old divide between sales and marketing.

Why most lead generation disappoints
Three things go wrong, and sending more messages does not fix any of them.
-
It counts leads that nobody qualified
When a lead means a form fill or a purchased contact, the number rises and the pipeline does not. Sales stops trusting the figure, and the agency is rewarded for volume. A definition of a qualified lead agreed with sales before the first message prevents that argument later.
-
It treats every contact as ready to buy
Only about 5 percent of a market is ready to buy at any given time2, which means outreach built for ready buyers reaches the other 95 percent at the wrong moment. Starting from signals narrows the list to accounts where something has changed.
-
It wears out the sender
Google tells senders to keep the spam rate reported in Postmaster Tools below 0.10 percent and to avoid ever reaching 0.30 percent3. Mass outreach to a purchased list can reach those limits quickly, and the damage to deliverability spreads across the whole domain.
How has lead generation evolved over the years?
Lead generation began as a numbers game of lists, calls and forms. Buyers who research on their own have since changed what works, and five shifts explain why a modern program starts from intent and ends with a conversation the buyer wanted.
-
Intent decides who gets contacted
ThenPrograms contacted everyone who matched on size, industry and job title.
NowPrograms contact the accounts that match and show a reason to talk, such as a funding round or a run of related job postings. We cover the signals in buying signals.

The Then and Now lines are our own reading of how the practice has changed. The response-time finding dates from 2011 and covers inbound leads only, and the shortlist figure comes from a survey of US buyers.
The shifts point the same way: contact fewer accounts for better reasons, arrive when the buyer is ready, and stay useful and familiar until then. We cover the account-based side of that on our ABM agency page and the publishing side on our B2B content marketing page, and each can be taken on its own.
What a lead generation engagement covers
Six pieces of work, and the mix depends on where your pipeline is thinnest. Each one can be taken on its own.
- Define who counts as a leadWe write the qualification criteria with your sales team, covering fit, need and next step, which gives every conversation we hand over the same bar to clear.
- Watch the signals that show a needWe track funding rounds, leadership changes, hiring patterns and system changes across your target market, and each one becomes a reason to reach out. We explain which ones to act on in our article on buying signals.
- Build the data behind each accountCurated, verified accounts and contacts replace purchased databases, and each record carries the signal that put it on the list.
- Reach buyers by email and LinkedInMessages are written for one account’s situation, sent from authenticated domains that are warmed gradually, and stopped the moment someone opts out.
- Follow up by phone with a personSomeone who has read the account’s signals makes the call, which replaces a script with a reason to talk.
- Answer inbound interest quicklyPages, forms and routing send interest from your own site to the right person fast, and a Harvard Business Review audit of 2,241 companies found that firms contacting a web lead within an hour were nearly seven times as likely to qualify it4.
What your first quarter looks like
The shape is the same for most clients, and the detail depends on your market, your sales process and how many accounts are in scope.
- Weeks 1–2
Agree the definition and the signals
We sit with your sales team to write what a qualified lead is, choose the signals that suggest a need in your market and agree which accounts are in scope. You receive a written definition and a first list, each account with the signal that put it there.
- Weeks 3–8
Build, warm up and start conversations
We set up authenticated sending domains and raise volume slowly, because mailbox providers penalize sudden spikes. Messages go out for each account’s situation, a person makes the follow-up calls, and every reply reaches your CRM with its history.
- Weeks 9–12
Review and tighten
We review which signals led to conversations and which did not, drop the weak ones and agree the next quarter with your sales team. Any result in the first quarter is provisional, and the program is judged over at least two.
How to choose a lead generation agency
Six questions that separate one agency from another, whichever one you end up hiring.
- Does the agency ask how you generate leads today? An agency that proposes a program before asking what already works is selling its own template. Look for one that wants to see your current sources, your conversion rates and the deals you closed last year, because the best new activity builds on what works and leaves it undisturbed.
- Who defines a qualified lead?If the agency defines it alone, the number will flatter the agency. Agree the definition with your sales team before the first message goes out.
- How does the agency match your buyers?Ask for the last three accounts it targeted and the reason for each, and check that they resemble your buyers in size, industry and buying group.
- How is it priced, and who carries the risk?Retainer, performance and hybrid models move risk differently, which is why you should ask what happens when results fall short and how a qualified conversation is counted for billing.
- Does it connect to your CRM?Conversations should appear in your CRM with their signal and history, which lets you trace pipeline back to where it began.
- What does sales receive at the handoff?A conversation handed over without context wastes the work already done. Ask what sales sees, how quickly and who follows up.

They said their cold email was broken. We fixed their discoverability

Is this the right fit for you?
Lead generation earns its cost when the deal is large enough for one conversation to matter, when you can describe a good account and when your sales team has the capacity to follow up. That describes many IT services and B2B tech firms, many SMBs whose proof is real but private, and start-ups that have their first customers. If your buyers mostly arrive through search or referral, begin with discoverability instead. If you are looking for a lead generation company in India, we work with B2B companies here and abroad from Bengaluru. Lead generation sits inside our GTM engineering work alongside ABM and warm calling, and you can take it on its own or alongside the rest.
Straight answers
What does a lead generation agency do?
A lead generation agency, which some call a lead generation company, produces conversations with buyers for a sales team to continue. That covers agreeing who counts as a qualified lead, finding the accounts and people who fit, reaching them by email, LinkedIn and phone, capturing interest that arrives on your own site, and handing each conversation to sales with its context.
What do the best lead generation agencies do differently?
They start from intent. Instead of contacting everyone who fits a profile, they watch for signals such as a funding round, a new executive or a run of related job postings, and reach out when something suggests a need now. They also agree with sales what a qualified lead is, build lists from verified signals in place of bought databases, keep a person in charge of every conversation, and report on pipeline rather than on lead counts.
What is the difference between lead generation and demand generation?
Lead generation aims at a conversation with a buyer who already shows a need, while demand generation builds awareness and preference among buyers who are not looking yet. Most B2B programs need both, and the balance depends on how much of your market is ready to buy now, which the LinkedIn B2B Institute puts at about 5 percent.
How do you choose a lead generation agency?
Ask whether it starts by learning how you generate leads today, who defines a qualified lead, how it matches your target profile and deal size, how it is priced and who carries the risk, whether conversations appear in your CRM with their history, and what sales receives at the handoff. An agency that answers with lead volume alone has skipped the questions that decide quality.
How are lead generation agencies priced?
Most use a monthly retainer, a fee per qualified conversation, or a mix of the two. A retainer pays for the work whatever the outcome, a per-conversation fee moves risk to the agency and invites argument about what counts as qualified, and a hybrid splits the difference. Whichever model you choose, agree the definition of a qualified conversation first, because billing depends on it.
What makes a lead qualified?
A lead is qualified when the buyer fits your target profile, shows a need and has agreed to a next step with a person. The criteria should be written with your sales team before outreach starts, because a definition that only the agency controls will always flatter the agency.
Do you buy contact lists?
No. We build curated lists of accounts and contacts from signals and verify them, because a purchased database carries no sign of interest and pushes a sender toward complaint limits. Google tells senders to keep the spam rate reported in Postmaster Tools below 0.10 percent and to avoid ever reaching 0.30 percent.
Does lead generation work with AI?
AI does the research and the monitoring, and a person decides who is contacted and handles every reply. That split keeps the speed of automation where it helps and keeps the conversation with someone who can judge what the buyer actually needs. More on how we run this is on our GTM engineering page.
